![]() Each playable character also possesses unique abilities, which adds some much-needed diversity to the gameplay. This is combined with fluid combat, which is as important for level progression as it is for platforming. Like the titles it takes inspiration from, the core gameplay loop revolves around getting through beautifully crafted levels with your character of choice. While Freedom Planet 1 was more closely related to its sonic-inspired roots, with Freedom Planet 2, the developers have taken it a step further. Gameplay is without a doubt the most enjoyable aspect of the title. And while this isn’t inherently a bad thing, it does come across as somewhat unoriginal. Each cutscene in the game is also voice-acted, and the quality of the voiceovers has greatly improved since the last time.įor some, the narrative might be a bit too generic at times, since many of the plot beats appears to have been lifted from Sonic Adventures. This makes the game replayable and gives the player multiple perspectives through which to view the events that unfold during the story. Players can choose to play as as some of these characters, each of whom has different stories in the main scenarios. The plot layers on a lot more worldbuilding and lore to Avalice and the events take place in such a way that greatly improves the writing of the characters themselves. The story this time around involves Merga, an ancient water dragon who frees herself from her shackles and seeks vengeance upon the descendants of those who sealed her away centuries ago. It is recommended to play through the original Freedom Planet before jumping into Freedom Planet 2, as the story is set on the exact same planet of Avalice. So, with this review, we intend to give you a better understanding of the game and whether or not you should invest time and money into the title. And though it has managed to improve upon everything that was lacking in the first game, it also somehow managed to mess some things up, which were great about the original. ![]() And after nearly 8 years of waiting, fans of the original can finally get their hands on it. The game was initially announced back in 2015, but the release date was pushed back multiple times. Now the addition of this sequel to the franchise has improved upon its unique take on the classic formula, further emphasizing its own identity. It is no secret that the first Freedom Planet originally started out as a Sonic The Hedgehog fangame, but it quickly became its own thing over time. But for some reason, there was little to no promotion before the release of the game, but now the title is officially available on all major platforms. While having them be stand alone would feel like a piece of the story of the original game's intent would not be fully realized. This Freedom Planet 2 Review covers the second installment in a series that most fans have been eagerly waiting for. I would pay for it as I'm sure a lot of people would as well. Heck.I'd pay for it being extra if it means you all get the chance to really fulfill the original intent with the extra character arcs and cut stages. There is quite a bit of cut content that would make the game feel more definitively complete that would be great to see get added in a remake/DX/definitive edition released sometime in the future. If FP1 was remade in FP2's engine.I would love to see that. We’re happy with an all female cast however, so the final comment isn’t really an issue to us. We are considering standalone spin off games with the two characters. ![]() Short of completely remaking FP1 in FP2’s engine, it’s impossible to do. ![]() We did not implement them into FP1, as every attempt to broke the game. Torque left the planet in FP1 and Spade has his own stuff going on. Originally posted by Gabby:They will not be playable in FP2. I already know way worse devs out there who never addressed simple bug fixes nor the care of the playerbase of what they put their money into.įrom my aspect it's always difficult to measure which game deserves my money the most when it comes to buying a product and it strongly depends on the dev efforts, history of game quality, implementations and the mere listening to the fanbase. I'm glad they did which tells me GalaxyTrail counts as a nice group of developers. Spade's and Torque's engine working is kinda incompatible with what they tried to implement them with. It's a shame that the DLC with the two characters as playable and better focus on their traits got scrapped, but hey, I'm perfectly fine with the original game as is, you all did a fine job. I'm sorry you had problems implementing Spade and Torque as playable characters.
